Acne scars from depressed, pulled inside skin treated with releasing scar tissue from previous acne under skin with a special cutting needle. The principle is to break the scar fibrotic tissue which tether the skin under the scar. The depressed skin defect is lifted and released immediately, but the main therapeutic effect will be developing within the next 6-8 weeks of new collagen formation.
Subcision is a minor surgical procedure, very effective, without incision or scalpels, under local anaesthetic. Depending on the depth and degree of the scar, there are 1 -3 procedures needed 6-8 weeks apart. More about research in this area can be found here. Temples, mandibular and preauricular zones are avoided for treatment with subcision due to high risk of nerve and arterial damage.
