MRI these days can be used nearly for everything. Is is safe with no ionising radiation, reasonably accessible and excellent for both bones and soft tissues.  Some of the MRI can be medicare eligible to be referred via GP – more information here.  Specialists have more rebates.

Bone density problems can be suspected even from a simple Xray (bones look darker than expected, more air). Bone densitometry is a golden standard for diagnosis and  is important to be checked is minor injury fractures and medical risk factors.
